After much research, I bought the Garmin Nuvi 350 from Amazon. I was still printing out Google maps in case, and I was so glad I did. The directions were totally out of the way. Instead of telling me to turn onto a interstate right down the road, it would give me some roundabout way to get there.
On another trip, it told me to get on a ferry when that wasn't even the quickest route. I changed the settings around so I've tried both the "distance setting" and the "quickest time setting."
Is this one just defective? Should I try another? I have no idea why a Google map would be better than a $200 piece of equipment.
My folks just had this same problem with their Garmin Nuvi 360, I am forgetful of the exact title of the systems scree you want to be in so bare with me....from the main screen- on the right side of the screen there are two options one is to help with volume controls the other with more system settings...go to the system settings screen... then you will want to browse thru the basic and advanced settings and you will find a screen, I think named " Avoidances" check those setting on that screen. My folks went on long road trip recently and were cussing their new gift gps, saying they drove all over the state hours away from the normal route. I laughed when I saw there setting were checked to avoid highways, u-turns, etc pretty much everything except ferry's. I have a feeling that hopefully these settings are what is causing your problem. Only check the items you want to avoid once there. Hope this helps solve your problem .
