2003 lincoln navigator `plop` sound seems to be coming from muffler. any idea what it could be?
I have a 2003 lincoln navigator and I hear a sound which resembles popping out a dent. It sounds like 'plumph'. This sound seems to be coming from the rear in the muffler area. Any ideas what it could be? I'm thinking that the muffler has a dent and the dent just pops out and goes back in causing the 'plumph' sound. This sound sometimes occurs when I am driving and even when my car is parked and the car is not even started 5 to 10 minutes after I'm done driving. Any information will be helpful.
It's most likely a heat shield just expanding and contracting as it heats/cools down. Normal, today's vehicles have a lot of these heat shields underneath.
