How to I supply power to my homemade hard drive enclosure?
I have several old hard drives from my old computers, 3 are IDE hard drives and 1 is a SATA hard drive. I would like to make a hard drive enclosure so that I can use these drives with my new computer for extra storage. I found a cable that will hook up a drive and convert it to USB so you can plug it into a computer. I would like to hook up four of these converters to a USB hub then plug the hub into the computer the problem is that I would have 4 hard drives to plug in and that would just about take up a whole power strip. I have a couple of spare computer cases and power supplies and would like to think of a way to mount all the hard drives and hooking them up to the power supply and running it like that but I am not sure how to run a power supply without hooking it up to a motherboard. Can you help me find a solution?

I would be concerned about the USB convertor cable you are using, can you post a description or its Universal Product Code? One convertor that I have requires power to be supplied to it from an external 12 volt dc power supply (wall-wart) and the convertor then provides 12 volt dc and 5 volt dc power to the hard drive.
To do what you are doing with my convertor, I would have to connect the ATX power supply 12 vdc wires to a special adapter cable that would be plugged into the convertor's power input jack. I would not be plugging the ATX power supply cables that usually go to hard drives directly to the hard drives, the convertor would handle all the power connections.
