Get him the kind that semi-portable, like the Tom Tom or Garmin Nuvi... they plug in to the cigarette lighter outlet (what car doesn't have one of those?) and then suction cup to the windshield. Plus, if he drives another car (travel, vacation, whatever) he can just unplug it, and take it with him.
