555 timer circut question?
this is quite a question, im trying to build a special ign. system for a small engine useing a Automobile CDI box and a custom crank angle sensor and i want to be able to retatrd the cadence(timing) useing a 555 as a monostable when i inject nitrous into the engine. this is an odd query i know, i already have the circut working great for the most part but am not sure how to change the time delay from the crank sensor input to the CDI box input when adding nitrous since it must be in degrees of crank angle and not constant time in milliseconds due to the fact that the engine changes speed. if anyone knows what im talking about do you have a suggestion on how i might go about this?
Yes, but you need to use a Picaxe or similar cpu for this. A 555 isn't versatile enough to do this.
An engine turns quite slowly in electronic terms, so it would be possible to measure the period of the pulses from the crankshaft then do a calculation of the time delay needed to be a certain percentage of this time.
This could then be used to produce a pulse at the right time.
Actually doing it would require some experimentation but it would be a fun thing to do.
