Whats the fastest route to Lake Tahoe from Santa Clara?
We plan to drive to Lake Tahoe from Santa Clara, Ca. Whats the best route to get there? Google maps shows that it will take 4 hours to get there. We have an 8 month old baby and want to get there quickly. The plan is to drive around the lake. We dont plan to stay the night and want to get back quickly as well. If anyone knows a good route to get there and a good driving loop around Lake Tahoe- please tell us. Thank you!
Your trip is NOT well planned.
Consider that a four hour trip up there means a four hour trip coming back. That's eight hours in a car with a baby.
As far as driving around the lake, you'd have to add an additional two to four hours. Think about it. That's a total of TWELVE hours!
Plus stops to eat, change the baby's diapers and stretch your legs.
The fastest route is to take 237, East, to 880, North. Just before Fremont, cut over on Mission Blvd to 680, East. Take that all the way, past Concord, over the Benecia Bridge and connect with 80, East, going toward Sacramento. In Sacramento, merge with 50, East. This will take you into the mountains and into the Lake Tahoe basin. The four hour estimate is pretty accurate, assuming no traffic and construction delays, and the only way to make it any faster would be to drive VERY fast. And, in the mountains, with a baby on board, this is NOT a good idea.
I HIGHLY recommend that you reconsider the overnight stay. From Santa Clara, to Lake Tahoe is NOT a day trip unless you are very young, very strong and DON'T have a baby with you.
