Which phone has better GPS maps?
I used to use a Garmin Legend CX GPS receiver for overseas travels. But the basic world map included is really bare and I find the purchasable detailed maps too expensive.
Now that I am getting a new phone, I hope to get one with GPS feature which I can use during my overseas trips.
Which phone (or platform) has the better free world maps that can be used with GPS (not 3G)?
GPS is Global Positioning System. 3G is just internet access through a carrier, so they technically have nothing to do with one another. 3G could be used to load up the map image data, but not for location purposes. That is where the A-GPS (assisted GPS) comes into play.
Mostly depends on which operating system the phone has.
iOS & Android devices use Google Maps
Windows Phone 7 & Windows Mobile devices use Bing Maps
Symbian devices use NAVTEQ (I believe).
You could check out the respective maps on a computer to decide which is best. Yahoo Maps uses NAVTEQ, of course Bing uses Bing Maps & Google uses Google Maps.
