Good Kayak Fishing rod holder placement?
Can someone explain why almost all the kayak rod holders are mounted BEHIND the angler? I would think you'd want it mounted in front of you, not angling away from your back? The only thing I could think of is that it would allow you to sort of troll your bait. Any clarification? Thanks.
I have a 10' sit-in and looking to modify it for local pond, stream, and lake fishing.
How would you cast if the rod holders were mounted FORWARD of you with rods in them. That would pretty much defy the purpose, don't you think?
If your 10 footer isn't already set up as a fishing kayak from the factory, it's not a good idea to go modifying it by drilling holes and boring out spaces in the plastic for rod holders. Doing that will offset the balance of the kayak and possibly make it unmanageable in the water while paddling.
If you want a kayak for fishing, purchase a fishing kayak.
