To much free time coming!?
Hi, im 16 and will be 17 in October09. I live in UK (London) and nearly finished my gcse and have a application pending for royal marines(royal navy infantry). I have worked out that i will have roughly till September to do nothing but train (for royal marines) and attend the odd interview, medical and 3 day test thing in all this time. These might be my last free months as a free man/boy (lol) and so can you guys tell me some cool stuff i can do. Abroad is possible, money is not bad and obv i dont mind adventure/outdoors. HELP!!!!! ANYTHING IS WELCOME. MORE IDEAS THE BETTER.THANKS
Ok. Here are my suggestions:
1. Try be a tourist in your own country. Pretend you are from another place and do what people do when they visit. Go on travel websites for the UK and see if they have special deals. Get a train pass and make plans for a few days each week.
2. Make sure you exercise daily. If you are going into the navy infantry you will be made to work out so it will be better for you if you are in shape before you go. I would walk a lot. Lift weights. Run if you like to run.
3. Since you will be with a bunch of guys you don't know for a long time after you go in the infantry, practice your skills at meeting and talking to new people. If you go back to number 1 and be a tourist in your own country, you will do that. Stay in youth hostels if you travel around. They are cheap and you always meet people.
4. I would read up on the navy and its history if you haven't done much of that. It can only help, especially with officers.
5. Since you may be away from your favorite foods for awhile, be sure you take the time to enjoy them with your family and friends. Look into the places you are likely to go once you are in the navy and find out about them in advance. Being prepared is a good thing.
6. If you have not traveled outside the UK before, you should go to at least one place. I would pick Amsterdam because they speak English there and it is fun! Lots to do. People are pretty friendly and there are youth hostels there.
