Can I use a Bushnell BackTrack Personal Locator gps for geocaching?
I am kinda into geocaching and I have seen that this is the cheapest gps available. Can I add a coordinate location into without having to be at the location?
I looked at the BackTrack on Bushnell's web site, and it does not appear that this device is suitable for caching. There is no way to enter coordinates directly, as near as I can tell, and it appears to hold three waypoints at the most. This is not a personal favorite, but you might look at this unit: http://www.amazon.com/Apisphere-Geomate-Handheld-GPS-Geocacher/dp/B002MZZX9E Price is not bad, and it comes preloaded with a huge number of caches. The major drawback is that a $25 "update kit" is required to load any new caches.
A better choice might be to search Amazon or Craigslist for a used low end "real" GPS. You should be able to find something for $50 to $75. You won't find a lot of features at those prices but try to make sure it has a USB, not serial, interface with the computer for loading caches.
Watch out for PorkChop and newelectronx, I'm sure he/she will try to lure you to automotive units on his Chinese GPS site.
