How can I make sure a CA vehicle title is authentic?
I will be looking for a new bike (motorcycle) on craigslist, and was hoping to just bring along my portable black light to verify if there's a black light mark that shows up on the title, similar to drivers licenses, credit cards, etc. Is there one on Vehicle titles and if so, what do they look like?
Fake titles are very rare. A more common problem is not getting a title at all. DO NOT buy this motorcycle if the seller can not put a CLEAR title in your hand at the exact instant money is to be exchanged. A CLEAR title means the bike is currently registered in the name of the seller, and there are no outstanding liens against it. If the name printed on the front of the title is NOT the name of the seller. DO NOT buy the bike. Be aware that Craigslist is SCAM central so proceed with caution.
