( for a go kart) what is the rpm range of a 25 hp boat outboard motor? ( rpm of the engine and propeller)?
I read the engine was 5000 rpm but i wasn't sure if the propeller was spinning at a different speed. also what is the minimum rpm it will spin at?
I'm trying to make a go kart out of the motor and am not sure if i need to try and make some way to gear it down or if i can just attach it directly to the axle.
I calculated that if i have 8 inch d tires and it's geared 1 to 1 ratio; it will max out at 120 mph. this seems unreasonable. however many small cars have 115 hp, weigh 10x the weight of the kart and go 100mph.
any help would be appreciated
It looks like they're geared to slightly more than 2. so at the idle rpm of the engine it would go 5 mph.

I've taken care of the cooling problem.
you are correct it will be somewhere between 1.7:1 and 2.??:1
But, it turns 5000 - 5500 RPM under the load placed on it by the prop and weight of the boat. With a higher pitch prop it won't reach that RPM; it'll be lugging. If you couldn't get it up to 5500 RPM at full throttle, you'd have to compensate, possibly by rejetting the carbs, but now we're talkin a whole new set of engineering problems.
Then of course, there's the problem of not having lake- or sea-water under your gokart for cooling the engine.
