Remove stripped threaded cap from a flush mount light fixture?
I have one of those cheap round flush mount light fixtures in my bathroom. The glass is held up by a decorative threaded cap that attaches to a threaded rod that drops dop from the center of the base. There is some corrosion visible on the outside of the fixture and the cap or the rod appears to be stripped. I can turn the cap freely in either direction without making any progress. I've tried pulling on it as I turn, without success. I tried to lubricate it with WD-40, but that didn't help. I can not see any other way to remove the glass, short of breaking it. Even if I have to replace the light fixture, I'd rather not intentionally break glass. Any suggestions?
Drill a hole in the center of the cap and slightly into the threaded rod , (Approx 5/16"), Insert an easy-out and turn counterclockwise to remove the rod and the cap, (The easy out has to make contact with the rod).
