Danner Mag 7 or Mag 5 for return pump?
Hello
I'm setting up a new reef tank and can't decide which pump to purchase. I have a 29 gal for display and a 20 gal(long) for the sump. I already drilled the tank and sump with 3/4'' ID bulk heads. I want to put in a MAG 7 that produces 450 GPH @ 4ft. but I don't know if my 3/4" ID pipe could handle that much overflow back to the sump.
on the other hand the MAG 5 produces 310 GPH @ 4ft. which would probably work
I'm just wondering if any one has any suggestions. do you think the MAG 7 would work or should I play it safe whith the MAG 5
key words: salt water sump refugium marine coral sps lps clam snails invertebrates macro algea lighting
I would go with a Mag 5 to on the safe side.
Overflow will always match the pump unless the pump can flow more water than overflow can handle. In this case you tank will overflow as too much water is pumped into the tank.
The sump will never overflow even if the pump is a low rated one. The overflow will somehow adjust to the pump.
